The world is not the same as it was when I was in school. When I was in high school, you got good grades to go to college and finish 4+ years of school and then work at that job you got a degree for. Not the case anymore, social media and the fast paced world we live in today has been able to accommodate so many people in careers that are high paying and provide enough income that more people can stay home now than work 9-5 jobs. So many single moms can stay home with their babies, dads are able to spend more time with their families now, the family dynamic roles have changed. Homemakers can make extra money to help provide for their family. Even starting a small business has changed. Before, you would need money to put down on a store front or get a business loan. If you wanted to work with a direct sales company you needed to do home parties with makeup or Tupperware. 

More than ever it's easier to start a business if you have a skill you are good at. My husband made his own website, invested money into pickup trucks, t-shirts and advertisements for his clean up and junk removal services. You no longer need to rely on a company to promote your website; with a little help from google, everything is at your fingertips. Its an easy do it yourself world or find someone who can do it for you. We are the kind of people to do it ourselves. You get a sense or pride knowing you built something from scratch. There is also direct sales companies where you invest a little to get a turn key business. 

After I was paralyzed, I was home for a while and needed to re-evaluate my life, not knowing if I could return to work full time 8-10 hours a day on my feet. I have done a lot of research on what I could do from home while I was still recovering from my conditions. There are many work from home jobs that span from children's books, to haircare, makeup, jewelry, clothes, health, diets. These are called direct sales. Direct sales is the process of selling products face-to-face away from a retail store location. Many times this is done through in-home shopping parties, presentations, and catalog sales. For a minimal fee, companies give you a starter kit that includes everything that you need to start your own business.

Often your first prospects and buyers will be friends, family, and co-workers, you will then build your customer base by getting referrals and marketing your business. Some direct sales companies will even give you a few leads to get started.

As a sales consultant, you will be paid a commission for each product that you sell. Some direct sales companies will also pay you a commission on products sales from consultants who you referred into the program. Besides being able to work from home, you will also be able to choose your working hours and the type of products that you sell. 

I looked high and low for companies that were a good fit for me. I don't wear much makeup, so it seemed a little silly to sit in front of a camera having people watch me do my makeup everyday. I have friends who love makeup and do very well selling it to other people. Some of those companies are Acti-labs, BriAA USA, and Avon (most people remember Avon, I am sure my grandma still has Avon makeup). Then there's hair and nail companies: Monat, Color Street, Jamberry just to name a few. 

There's also diet companies Beachbody, Thrive as well as countless others; those companies offer shakes and nutritional supplements. Seeing I gained so much weight from medication I thought it would be a good fit for me, but it wasn't read why here. I agree that some people have done phenomenally with these companies, and I will give them credit for that. 

I love cooking so much and I decided to look for a company like that, and I remembered how much I loved Pampered Chef parties. But with my some of my disabilities I was not going to go into people's homes and rely on home parties to provide an income, but you can totally run this company from home on social media without ever stepping foot into a stranger's home! With the low startup cost that worked perfect for me!
There are companies revolving around fashion, but I am a plain jane. If it fits, I wear it. I do not have to attend board meetings or model off the latest fashion. The closest I get to making money through fashion is with jewelry. I wasn't planning on stocking up on inventory as you do with Paparazzi.
